Walyalup artist, Sam Bloor, presents his latest show at Void_Melbourne this October. Bloor’s debut East Coast solo exhibition documents a selection of his large-scale outdoor billboard interventions that appeared through Western Australia, Queensland and Victoria between 2023 and 2026.
The poetic text provocations, presented in stark black and white, oscillate in tone from societal to existential, from private to emotional — playing out in anonymous, often unglamorous, roadside environments.
Offering viewers no context, the fleeting messages - presented in Bloor’s trademark font - invite passing audiences to steal a moment of reflection, repurpose the message as a mantra, or enjoy an unusual instance of curious ambiguity.
This exhibition marks the first instance a survey of Bloor’s outdoor billboard works has been presented in a gallery setting; in doing so, Bloor transforms his large, outdoor, anonymised interventions into an intimate and personal, human-sized presentation.
